Drooping eyelids may initially present as a cosmetic issue but can cause vision impairment.
If you find yourself tilting your head back or arching your eyebrows to see better, it may be time to consider surgery. Loss of peripheral vision due to sagging eyelids can also be corrected with surgery.
Known as entropion (inward) and ectropion (outward) eyelids, this condition can cause discomfort, watering, infection, crusting, and even vision impairment from the eyelashes scratching the eye. Candidates include those who experience:
- Eyelids turned outward or inward
- Eyelids do not align when closed
- Eyes damaged from injury
- Tears fail to spread over the eye

When the eye produces too many tears, tear ducts fail to drain fully, or eyelids do not fit properly, excessive watering can occur.
Constantly watering eyes can make it difficult to see. Tear duct surgery can correct tear duct drainage and unclog blocked ducts.
Common benign bumps and lumps in the eylid are not usually harmful. However, changes in size, color, or bleeding should be reported to your eye doctor along with bumps or lumps causing long term discomfort. Candidates for surgery include those who:
- Have a cyst or lump similar to a stye
- Feel heaviness in the eyelid
- Report tenderness, swelling, or discomfort in the eyelid
