Mel, the first patient in Idaho to undergo the surgery, was awake for the quick and painless procedure, describing the experience as little more than "seeing colors" or as Dr. Mong calls it "the light show." The Vision Quest family was ecstatic to take part in the newest ground breaking cataract surgery. Local news outlets attended post-op to talk with Dr. Mong - keep an eye on your local news channel to see the interview!

Exciting advancements are happening at Vision Quest Medical Center! On Wednesday, September 4th, Dr. Jacob Mong will be performing the first surgery in Idaho to implant the new PanOptix Trifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL ), and possibly the first in the entire Rocky Mountain region. This historic event marks a new chapter in the advancement of technology for cataract treatment.

Vision Quest is thrilled to offer this revolutionary new lens to our patients.Previously used IOLs only offered benefits to specific view distances.Recently approved by the FDA,this Trifocal lens offers near, intermediate, and far vision to patients; significantly reducing the need for glasses.

This is the first lens of its type worldwide and has provided incredible results. Patients participating in the FDA study experienced uninterrupted, exceptional vision. 99% of patients say they would choose the trifocal lens again. The lens improves intermediate vision without compromising near and distance vision with proprietary ENLIGHTEN® Optical Technology.

Dr. Mong is honored to be one of the first ophthalmologists in America to implement this exciting new technology, leading the way into a new era of cataract treatment. With over 4 million cataract surgeries performed annually in the U.S. this advancement couldn’t come at a better time. When asked about the upcoming surgery, Dr. Mong responded:

“We’ve been watching these amazing results for patients across the Atlantic for three years now. At last, we can start offering this life changing vision restoration here at home! Europe tends to be about 5 years ahead of the United States in terms of medical technology progress, and while the current technology we have been using here is good, it is nowhere near what this new lens will allow us to do for people.

For most people over the age of 55, it's hard to even remember what it was like to be able to see clearly at all ranges. Looking out the window, reading your watch, picking up a newspaper: All without reaching for glasses or turning up the light. It's a joy to help them rediscover what they have been missing for so long! Over 99% of patients who have received this lens would do it again. That is a success rate unheard of in the current field of cataract surgery.

This is an exciting development for patients with cataracts and astigmatism here in the states. In the past, restoring youthful vision to patients with cataracts has always required compromising either distance, intermediate or near vision. We have never been able to truly offer all three, until now! It's both humbling and exciting to be the first here in Idaho to have access to this new technology. Here at Vision Quest, our mission is to improve the vision options of Idaho patients, and we will hopefully see other surgeons in our area follow suit and offer these new technologies as we help patients reach for goals that had previously been unobtainable”

Vision Quest Medical Center is at the forefront of vision advancement, always seeking the best treatment methods for our patients. Our experienced and professional staff merge world class technology with treating patients like family. Put your vision in the best hands.
