A new solution for primary open-angle glaucoma

Dr. Mong has implanted one of the first iStent infinite® devices in the state, bringing a new solution to Treasure Valley residents suffering from primary open-angle glaucoma. The device is used to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) of the eye for patients undergoing cataract surgery, or as a standalone procedure.
A Glaucoma Revolution
iStent infinite® offers an intermediate treatment as an alternative to more invasive procedures. The first of its kind standalone implant provides long-term control of IOP for patients who have failed prior medical and surgical intervention, including those who have:

iStent infinite® at Work
Primary open-angle glaucoma occurs when the drainage canal in the eye becomes blocked. Unable to drain fluid properly, pressure on the optic nerve grows, causing damage and vision loss over time. There are generally no symptoms or warning signs, making routine eye exams the most reliable method of detection.
Implanted stents help correct the condition by re-opening the drainage canals of the eye to assist in fluid removal, lowering pressure. The iStent infinite® builds on traditional stent procedures with a patented multidirectional design for increased flow. It also implants three devices instead of two, and allows the surgeon to reposition the stents as many times as needed to achieve optimal placement (other procedures have limited placement opportunities).
Finally, the FDA has approved iStent infinite® as a standalone treatment option that can be used at any stage of disease.
